How to Keep Your House Clean!

 If anyone else is  like me and hates cleaning, you'll enjoy this post. We all know how much of a drag it is to dusk above the fan and trying to keep the carpet spot free with our busy lives. Well I've gathered some tips for you to help keep your house sparkling clean!

So you decided to rearrange the furniture and you see that little spot of carpet thats matted down. Well give your carpet a lift from a fork. Yes, forks! Forks have another use besides chowing down food. Use the prongs to gently fluff the carpet back up to its original position.

As much as I love my dog, our carpet can sometimes smell like a wet dog. Does anyone else have that problem? Dog smell or not, carpet can get smelly and no one wants to pay to have they're carpets washed. What's a quick fix? Baking Soda. Sprinkle some on your carpet, let it sit for an hour, then vacuum up the powder and no more stinky carpet!

Uh Oh! Who made the party fowl and spilled red wine on your pearly white carpet? It is possible to get out red wine, but you have to act fast, before the stain dries. My secret weapon, vinegar and laundry soap. First, gently blot away any wine. Then apply the vinegar over the stain and top with the soap. Let it soak in for a few minutes then rinse and wash away.


Planning ahead that there may be a few stains after your next big bash? Oxy Carpet Cleaner does a great job at getting out red wine stains. It's available at target for $5.99.

Are you like me and can't balance on a stool and clean the ceiling corners without falling off and creating an embarrassing bruise on your face? Well problem solved. Fasten a micro-fiver cloth to the bristles of a broom with a rubber band, then use the long handle to reach up into the corners.

Easy Holiday Decor Ideas

Did a group of your friends just decide that your place will host the holiday party? Tonight? Or is this your first Christmas party you'll be hosting and you don't know the difference between an ornament and garland? Well no worries, these simple decoration ideas will have your house holiday ready in no time. 

1. Hang a Festive Wreath

Hanging a wreath on your front door automatically gives off a holiday spirit without even trying very hard. All you need is a nail and hammer and VOILA! Holiday spirit! Guests will feel the festive spirit without even stepping into your house. 

2. Display a Charming Centerpiece 

A centerpiece brings any table together and doesn't have to be an extravagant bouquet that breaks your bank . This table piece can be put together in minutes and is affordable. Pull out any serving dish or vase you have and fill it with festive ornaments and greenery . These ornaments are only 3.99 for a pack of 10 at Target!

3. Spruce Up Your Mantel

Place a string of evergreen garland (found in the craft section) across your mantel with tall clear jars. Fills the jars with fake cranberries, top with a candle, hang some stockings and you have a fabulous mantle in no time. 

Tip: go for battery operated candles. You can keep them on all day with out the worry of an accidental fire.

4.  Festive Sweet Treats

Display some holiday colored candy in drinking glasses and places them around your home. All you need to do is pull some glasses from the cupboard and open a bag of candy to add an extra touch to your holiday party. The look is sophisticated, yet everyone will love munching on the treats.

5 Decor Accessories Every Living Room Should Have

This summer I moved into my first apartment and was very excited about decorating. Target allowed me to find unique things that fit my personality, without breaking my budget (a pour college students budget). I feel that decorating allows me to express my creative side and lets me create a place of my own. Have you or are you moving into your first apartment or house? I've put together a list of 5 basic things everything room shouldn't go without. Adding these simple things can make your room go from boring to WOW!

1. Throw Pillows:  Pillows are my go to accessory when I want to decorate a room. They are inexpensive and can add to the vibe of your room. These pillows are a part of HGTV Designer's Vern Vips collection that's offered exclusively at Target. He has bold vibrant pillows, that will bring an essence of fun to any room.

2. Curtains: Curtains to add color to a bland wall and can also make a room feel more homey. Depending on what mood you want your room to feel (romantic, eccentric, vibrant...) curtains can enhance that feeling. If you want more of a cosy feeling go for warming colors such as red or orange. If a relaxing feeling is more your style go for lighter cooler colors such as violet or water blue. 

3. Floor Lamp: Floor lamps are great for adding a   change in height. Usually chairs and tables run about the same height and that can get boring. Tall floor lamps are great also because they can stand as a piece of art by themselves. 

4. Large Floor Rug: I believe that a large floor rug is  the most important accessory for a living room. It's the one thing that can really pull a room together and make everything work. If most of your decor is a solid color, go for a patterned rug, it will creates a dramatic focal point for the room. If your curtains, walls or couch is a pattern, stick with a solid color rug. Too many patterns can make your room feel too busy. 

5. Wall Art: Instead of paying tons of money on paint (and not to mention all the time) buy a piece of wall art. It can really change up a room and add more unity. It could range from decorative mirrors or to a quirky painting, whatever fits your style and budget. 

Tip: Your wall art should be no higher than eye level. If your art is to high or low, it creates an awkwardness in the room.
